Ricky is a troubled city boy, growing up in foster care. Then one day he ends up in a foster family in the country, and his life begins to take a new direction. He quickly finds himself on the run in the middle of the New Zealand bush with his gruff foster uncle. The unlikely pair become the subjects of a nationwide manhunt with the police close on their tails. With no other option they overcome their differences and join forces … this comedic movie is directed by Taika Waititiho which is adapted from the novel by popular writer Barry Crump from New Zealand. The successful film won numerous awards at international festivals, largely due to the performance of thirteen year old Julian Dennison, who is a rising star in New Zealand cinema.
