For the 13th time, Aussie & Kiwi Film Fest brings Australian and New Zealand cinematography and culture to Prague cinemas: Lucerna, Edison Filmhub, and Ponrepo, as well as other venues. The program introduces critically- and audience-acclaimed feature and short films of different genres. Given the increasing popularity of Australian and New Zealand horror, it allows for an original creative approach, social hyperbole and an intense viewing experience. Fans can look forward to a fantasy comedy and the Australian audience’s favourite THE FOX, directed by Dario Russo, which scored at international festivals, bringing audience awards from Sydney and Melbourne. Find the program and buy your ticket here.
The festival begins on November 6 at 8 pm at Lucerna Cinema with the premiere of Australian-Irish detective drama CHASING MILLIONS, directed by Stephen Burke and inspired by a real bank robbery in Belfast, Ireland. On Saturday, November 7, we’ll offer a bizarre horror comedy, MUM, I’M ALIEN PREGNANT. Together with the director Barbora Chobocky, we’ll present a documentary MARIA, about emigration from Czechoslovakia at Ponrepo Cinema. Australian-Czech documentarist finished it in Australia in 1992 and is ready to discuss the film after the screening.
A talking fox, a psychedelic documentary and nuns on a road trip
Australian fantasy comedy THE FOX offers a playful story about romantic relationships, adultery and conflict and will be screened at Lucerna Cinema on November 8. It is also the last film of New Zealand late actor Sam Neill, or rather, of his voice, which he lent to a magpie in the movie.
Edison Filmhub will present four films this year, including WOLFRAM, a historic western directed by the highly regarded Warwick Thornton. Body horror SACCHARINE explores a disturbing topic of obsession with one’s appearance, and it will be followed by a debate with Ridina Ahmed, author of the book Moje tělo je moje (My body is mine) and the podcast series Sádlo (Lard). Visually intriguing documentary PHENOMENA, directed by an Australian, Josef Gatti, delivers a psychedelic experience. It was given an audience award at the International Festival of Science Documentary Films – AFO. And we will close the festival with a specific New Zealand road movie with nuns – HOLY DAYS on Thursday, November 12.
Young audience and film education
Aussie & Kiwi Film regularly offers morning screenings for schools at Lucerna Cinema. This autumn, they will run from November 5 to 13 and show films from both countries to elementary and high school students.
